Building Conference Marketing Sites for Northeastern Scout

Motion and animationFigma to productionNext.jsTechnical lead

Two conference marketing sites for Northeastern Scout's annual design conference, 300 to 500 attendees each. I served as technical lead working with an interdisciplinary team of designers and engineers. Built landing page entrance animations, hover interactions, and a sliding banner. Both sites shipped on hard deadlines and are live.

The Problem

Northeastern Scout hosts an annual design conference for 300 to 500 attendees. Each year the conference team needs a marketing site that reflects a new theme, built on a hard deadline tied to the event date. The site has to go from design handoff to live product with no flexibility on timing.

Discovery

  • 01

I worked on two consecutive years of the conference. In 2023 I joined as a front-end developer on a team of designers and developers building the Ignite site. In 2024 I returned as technical lead for Collide, leading a team of three developers from wireframe handoff to launch.

Key Decisions

  • ·

I broke the project into components from day one and maintained a backlog of outstanding work throughout. Weekly sprint handoffs kept the team accountable and made it easy to spot blockers early. That structure is what made a two-month timeline from wireframe to launch achievable.

  • ·

The animation work was a significant part of both sites. Landing page entrance animations, hover interactions, and a sliding banner were implemented to bring the design vision to life in the browser. Getting those transitions to match the designers' intent required close collaboration throughout the build.

Outcome

Both sites shipped on time and are live. The 2024 site went from wireframe handoff to launch in two months. The Collide conference ran for 300 to 500 attendees.

What I'd Do Differently

  • ·

On the 2024 project I would have set daily priority check-ins from week one instead of relying on weekly handoffs. Three developers moving in slightly different directions compounds fast on a tight deadline. I caught it, but later than I should have.
